Hey there! It was great talking to you tonight. I always look forward to Sunday evenings.I hope Elder Nyaring had a good send off and arrived safely in his new mission. I’m so glad you had the opportunity to serve with him. And I hope you enjoy your last week or so with Elder Oldroyd. I’m so glad you have busy days and a lot of finding and teaching keeping you active. Some of the situations you are in with the people you are teaching are just difficult! I hope you find people that are willing and wanting to learn and progress.
We had a good week here. This is what we've been up to:
1. The highlight of our week was definitely making gingerbread houses at Great Nana’s house. It’s the best tradition! Ethan couldn’t come because he was booked all day with sports, so I decorated his for him. Ethan had his last volleyball tournament of the season, and his team won the championship game!
2. We have been living under a terrible blanket of smog all week. It’s so gross and pretty eerie looking—especially at night. It finally cleared out a bit this afternoon. Hopefully it’s not an omen of the type of winter we are going to experience this year. It looked so cool and mysterious.
3. DRIP LORD began rehearsals for Finding Nemo. He got Bruce.
4. Blake has been working hard on homework, and started his final three BYU essays. He’s also been playing a LOT of basketball.
5. Michael invited Natalie and some other friends to go to Jackson and ski for the weekend. I don’t have any details about the trip, but I know Mike was worried he wouldn’t be able to ski because he sprained his ankle playing basketball. Sounds like they stayed with Uri.
6. Michael got accepted to the study abroad program in Taiwan that he applied for!
7. My Dad’s cousin Mark Griffin passed away last week and I attended his funeral this week. It sounds like he was a remarkable man whose life was taken too soon by cancer. He served his mission in Spain in 1978 (?), and his favorite mission companion spoke at the funeral, and about 10 others sang “Elder’s in Zion.” His mission obviously had a huge impact on his life and he kept up close friendships throughout his life.
8. We had a nice dinner at the church for the ward Christmas party.
9. Dad and I took Tate and Jett to the last half go a Harmonic Winds Christmas concert at Davis High.
10. Our Spotify wrapped came out this week, and my Spotify was definitely hacked by DRIP LORD borrowing my old phone to listen to music while mowed the grass all summer!
And now. . . for a little bit of news highlights, because this week has been WILD.
1—South Korea’s unpopular president declared martial law and the people of South Korea were NOT having it. They immediately took to the streets to protest. The military refused to enforce the president’s orders a lawmakers unanimously voted to end martial law. Now the president is facing calls for resignation or impeachment. Shocking and amazing.
2—About 15 years ago rebels in Syria tried to overthrow their evil dictator, Bashar al Assad. He dropped chemical weapons on his own civilians, imprisoned political opponents, and caused millions of refugees to flee his country. Civil war has been simmering since then. And now all of a sudden this week the rebels captured several cities and overthrew the government. Assad took his family and fled to Russia seeking asylum. People are celebrating in the streets and looting his palace—including his collection of dozens of luxury cars. I don’t think anyone saw this coming, and there’s a huge question as to if the country will descend into chaos, or grow into a democracy.
3—Trump is nominating a parade of deplorables to lead major organizations within the government. So far Matt Gaetz has had to withdraw for corruption, incompetence and personal failings. Pete Hegseth looks to be next to fall for the same reasons. Hopefully Tulsi Gabbard joins them considering she is BFFS with the aforementioned Assad. See also Kash Patel because he’s legit crazy. The man wrote a children’s book about the evil queen Hillary Queenton who plots to take down the good king Donald. SMH. Trump is threatening the entire world with tariffs. He’s threatening his political enemies with jail. And he says not only illegal immigrants be deported, but possibly the entire household. He’s refusing to sign ethics documentation and basically saying that it should be fine for his companies to take bribes from foreign countries. His wife Melania is hawking cheap Christmas ornaments on Fox News. Odds are that she will not be moving to the White House this time around.
4—Biden issued a pardon for his son Hunter and lots of people are BIG MAD at him. Trump promises to pardon all the people convicted of crimes on January 6.
5— Bronco Mendenhall announced he will be coming to Utah State to coach.
6—This is the story I’m currently obsessed with: The CEO of the largest healthcare company in the U.S. was murdered at 6:45 AM on the sidewalk in front of a Marriott Hotel on Wednesday morning. He was shot in the back by a man who was waiting for him with a gun and a silencer.
From the video footage, the assassin seemed extremely calm and experienced using a weapon—clearing it multiple times when it jammed.
Assassin knew when and where to wait for the CEO. Seems like a professional hit job. Crazy.
Assassin calmly exits the scene to cross the street and then escapes on a BIKE into Central Park. Bike must have been placed ahead of time because it was not a Citibike that could be traced by GPS.
CEO was on his way to an investor meeting where he would announce that profits rose from $22 BILLION last year to $30 BILLION this year.
Rumors stated they continued with the meeting despite the murder, but reporting confirms meeting was canceled.
HOWEVER, someone must have had a meeting because the company released a statement about how their management bench is “quite deep,” and they expect a smooth transition. They are boosting fair value estimate from $550/share to $590.
Company stock soars to over $610 by close of day. Down to $579 next day.
CEO (and colleagues) is accused of insider trading. 2 weeks before DOJ announced anti-trust investigation, CEO dumps $15 million in stock. Colleagues drop another $85+.

Wife confirms CEO had received threats. "IDK—maybe regarding denied claims…?" Apparently they didn’t take the threats too seriously? CEO was walking without security to the mtg at 6:45 am.
Police issue reward for information of $10k. Not 10mm.
Bullet casings have the words “deny” “defend” “depose” written in permanent marker. Appears to reference book with similar title about how insurance companies deny claims.
New evidence= discarded water bottle, burner phone, picture of his face (flirting with woman at nearby hostel). Hard to imagine they don’t know who he is now that they have his face.
Overall consensus from comments and conversations on TikTok and other social media—people do NOT care that he was murdered in cold blood. “Thoughts and premiums.” “My empathy is out of network.” “Eat the rich.”
This is FASCINATING social commentary.
Is this some disgruntled father whose kid was denied coverage? Somebody who is dying, has been denied coverage and has nothing to lose? Or is that a false flag hiding something bigger? Crazy.
Police think assassin left New York by bus.
Police have found the guy’s backpack. It had his jacket in it. . . And MONOPOLY MONEY.
Social Media is full of countless people sharing their personal stories of having medical coverage denied by insurance companies. People are calling the assassin a hero and fantasizing about how handsome/smart/funny he is. His nickname is “the Adjustor.” Truly macabre.
“No one mourns the Wicked” has become the theme song.
Day 5, they apparently still don’t know the guy’s name or location. FBI offering additional $50K reward.
What a world we live in.
Well, my guess is that none of your missionary friends get emails from home that are quite like mine. Consider yourself lucky! Lol. Enjoy the rest of your p-day, and I’ll talk to you soon.

Ps. One more thing I forgot to mention---Dad closed the biggest deal the firm has ever done on Monday. He's really glad to have it wrap up before the end of the year and hoping to not have any major projects land on his desk until after his Christmas vacation. He works so hard to take care of and provide for us! He deserves a nice relaxing vacation.
