Happy Halloween!
Hello boys!
I hope you had a fantastic week, and I’m looking forward to talking to you both. If I remember right, Ty’s p-day will be on Wednesday this week, so I’ll have to wait a little longer to talk to him.
We had a fun, festive week. This is what we were up to:
- Tate’s basketball season has started. He had his first couple of games this week. Dad’s been working with him to go after rebounds and he’s making improvement!
- Tuesday morning I took Jett to Dr. Brown’s office to get his braces on. He was not happy about the whole thing. he’s a bit moody these days! Sigh. Comes with the age I suppose. He was scheduled to get them after Halloween, but his trays came in early and they bumped up his appointment. I think the trays are way better than actual braces, but they are still a pain for sure.
- While I was at Dr. Brown’s office I heard someone talking about the new garments being available in stores in the US that day. She said there were lines out the door at distribution centers all over and that the ones online were going fast. So I pulled up the website, and sure enough, it had crashed because of high demand. I got online and people had posted pictures of long lines. Haha. We are a crazy people. My mom is getting ready for her trip to Japan and doesn’t want to have to do laundry while she’s gone, so she went to buy extras for her trip. She had the worst timing! She had no idea about the new garments coming out, but she showed up on just the wrong day and had to stand in line with the masses. She bought the new style and got them home and hates the fabric. lol.
- Tuesday night we took Jett and Tate with us to game night at the firm. Todd taught us us new game called Stoneage that I thought was fun. Also—I had a really awesome piece of pizza. It had spicy sausage, sauerkraut and apples on it. Definitely unique!
- We missed Ethan, but he didn’t come with us to game night because he had his day date for the Harvest dance. First date! They went to a haunted house. I told Ethan I didn’t want him coming home and having nightmares, and that it was ok to close his eyes if he was feeling scared.
- Wednesday night we had a neighborhood trunk or treat in the church parking lot and then a chili dinner afterwards. I loved it because it’s so fun to be out and see everyone’s costumes and creativity on display. People went all out to decorate their car trunks. Its was a lot of fun. Plus, I didn’t have to cook dinner! Win-win! Tate had complained many times that I always dress up as a witch, so I asked him what he wanted me to dress us as this year. He said he wants me to be a skeleton, so I bought a skeleton onesie costume that was perfect for the chilly weather. Tate watched me put on the costume in my closet and liked it. Then I went to my room and put on a blond wig from the Halloween bin. When Tate saw me with blond hair he was horrified. “What did you do?! I do Not like that hair or lipstick!” Well. He has quite the strong opinions! I wore the wig anyway, and I was funny to see people’s reactions. A lot of people did not recognize me.
- Jett decided to enter the Martin Luther King Jr. speech contest this year. I think he was more interested in prize money than really learning about MLK, but it was a great experience anyway. He chose to memorize a section from a speech called “What is your life’s blueprint.” Thursday afternoon the contest was held in the school library. I was so impressed by the speeches the kids memorized, and so moved by MLK’s words. I really, really enjoyed it. Jett go a little nervous and forgot some of the words, which made him embarrassed. He was disappointed in his performance. But I thought he did a great job with delivery, and he recovered from his mistakes and moved on, which can be hard to do in front of an audience. I’m proud of him for trying new things. And now we have to hurry and get him ready for his Newsies audition next week!
- Friday was Halloween! I love this holiday. I got to go to the costume parade at Endeavour and delight in all the amazing costumes. I got to go to Tate’s class party and make hanging ghost crafts with them. In the afternoon we had a yummy potluck dinner in the Hyde’s driveway. I had to leave dinner to drive Tate around the neighborhood looking for different parts of his costume he had ditched during the afternoon. He was out chasing the pumpkin for hours, and I guess he got hot? Sigh. It paid off for him though because he got to turn in the pumpkin to Marci Judd and get a bag of popcorn for the prize! Sadly we were not able to find his Messi chain. That night I handed out candy to trick or treaters and the littles went trick or treating. Tate went with Gavin, and Dad thinks it’s the 10th year in a row that he a Jared have gone trick or treating together! Jett took his Apple Watch and went out with Nate and Milo. He was disappointed that his enormous bag of candy only weighed in at 10 pounds. Apparently Tommy Rawson brought in 21 pounds of candy! Grandpa Rawson has requested (more than once) via text that Tommy bring his candy over to share with him! Ethan decided NOT to trick or treat with his friends, but he did dress up as a Jedi and meet up with them to watch a movie. He handed out candy before he left, and decided that giving candy to little kids is just about the happiest thing you can do in life. Michael sent me several pictures of him in different costumes at different parties. That kid has an amazing social life.
- Bright and early Saturday morning we dressed up (in church clothes this time) and drove up to Idaho for Daxton’s baptism. We stopped at Bowman’s to buy donuts to share because I know Rob’s family loves donuts, and Bowman’s is the best. The baptism was great. Robby baptized Dax. Ryan Hancock gave a talk on the Holy Ghost. And Dax had a huge group of men in the circle for his confirmation. Leisja’s heart was full because all the people she loves were gathered at her house. The weather was perfect and we were able to eat outside and enjoy the sun. We drove home and then watched Jett’s basketball game and picked up pizza (BBQ 🤢) for dinner. And then I collapsed in bed from exhaustion because apparently my new bed time is 8 pm. Ethan wasn’t able to come with us. He had a basketball thing all day. I think he enjoyed it though.
- Today we changed our clocks for daylight savings. It felt great to wake up to the sun and to have an extra hour of rest. But I’m sure I’ll feel differently tonight when the sun sets at 4:30. I’m not looking forward to the dark and cold months ahead!
Well, my Sunday nap is calling me! I love you both. Have a great week!
Love, Mom
