Life is Good

Hey there! Hope you’ve had a great week. It’s been busy, I’m sure. I hope your new teaching methods are going well. Parking lot contacting sounds like an adventure! I’m so glad you were able to spend a p-day with the Chinese zone. Have you been able to keep practicing your Chinese on top of everything else you are doing? How are your allergies doing? Any improvement?

We’ve had another crazy-busy week.

1. The boys had their last piano lessons of the year this week and brought home federation trophies. Ty had his very last lesson! Makes me sad.

2. Tate and Jett had their last soccer games of the season. Jett has soccer tryouts today. He’s a good little goalie, but playing on the field isn’t his strength. We are not sure what to expect for him. He loves playing soccer, but he’s starting football in August, and that might suit his abilities a little better. We’ll see.

3. Ty finished up all of his schoolwork and worked off his Us and got his graduation papers! Hurray! We are all relieved to be on this side of it.

4. Funny story: Ty was sitting at the desk working off his U, and he asked me, “what am I not good at?” I said “Doing the dishes.” Then he starts recording a video talking about things he is good at and how he developed those talents. Then he said, “My mom says that I’m not good at washing dishes. I will practice every Sunday night. I will manage my negative emotions by playing music…” And I completely lost it. I started laughing uncontrollably and couldn’t stop. Of course Ty didn’t want to start over on his video, so he kept trying to talk through the laughter and submitted his video. Well, he had to go into the office and counseling center to get papers signed for graduation, and all of the ladies in the office recognized Ty, and said how much they loved his video and how it made their whole week! Lol.

5. On Wednesday Jett got phase 1 braces on his upper teeth, and I got alignment trays on my upper teeth. So right now we have 4 people in orthodontia!

6. On Thursday we drove out to the Saratoga Springs temple open house for a tour. It was such a beautiful temple. It had sort of a sego lily and grasslands theme. The stained glass was amazing of course, but also there was a ton of artwork I had never seen before. The surrounding neighborhood has a long boulevard that leads straight up to the temple, and the temple looks down to the lake.

7. Friday night Dad had his Father’s and Son’s activity at the church. The campground they had reserved was flooded, so no camping this year. Instead they played kickball and corn hole and roasted marshmallows for s’mores over at the church. Fun activity for the boys, and I didn’t have to pack up all the camping gear! Win/win.

8. Ty has been spending a lot of time birding. He went out super early with grandpa one morning for a few hours, and out again on Saturday. He’s trying to finish up the last few in his Farmington 100 list tonight! He was in a competition last weekend and ended up winning 2nd place (I think!) in the beginner league, and won some cool swag. I guess Mr Blundell wanted to honor him at a photography showcase with his birding pictures, but the communication wasn’t clear, and Ty ended up missing the event.

9. Saturday we went to wedding receptions for Zach Aposhian and McKay Baker. McKays sister Lauren had a baby 7 weeks ago that was born very, very early and weighed about a pound and a half. The baby is still in the hospital and is just teeny tiny. Brenda showed us the diapers they use and they were so small! Like probably less than 3 inches long. Jeff Hirst from the high council spoke in church on Sunday. His first son was premature and only a pound and a half. He talked about all of the struggles they had with his strength and development. And now he is a senior graduating with Ty!

10. Sunday was a really nice day. We went to Ty’s seminary graduation, but the highlight was going with Ty to get his patriarchal blessing. It’s such a rewarding experience as a parent to be there and listen to blessings specific to each child.

Bonus: Blake made dinner for us and it was all ready when we got home from Seminary graduation. He made Korean beef with rice, roasted broccoli, and watermelon and it was delicious!

Love you Michael!
