Spring Teaser

Hello my dear! I hope you have a wonderful week! I haven’t heard from you since the last time I wrote, so I’ve got no new info to respond to. We had a pretty good week here.

1. I’m starting out this week with sad news. Leisja’s Dad Chuck died unexpectedly this week. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago and chemo had gone well. I haven’t spoken to her to understand the details of what happened yet. My understanding is that his numbers were better than expected after chemo and they were hopeful that the cancer had not spread. He went in for surgery this week that had the potential to add several years to his life expectancy. But during the surgery they cur one of his arteries and be began to bleed uncontrollably. After 50 (!!!) units of blood they were unsuccessful at repairing the artery and they called the family to say their goodbyes. Because Rob and Leisja were up in Idaho they did not make it to the hospital before he died, but did get to call by phone. I’m feeling grateful that they have been able to live with Leisja’s parents for the past few months and spend extra time with him.

2. This week I got released from Primary and called to. . . Young Women’s! That was a shock to me, but I’m excited for the change.

3. On Tuesday night I went to an open house at Representative Paul Cutler’s house. He is our new representative in the Utah legislature.  Only one other person showed up, so the two of us had Mr. Cutler’s undivided attention for about two hours. It was a great opportunity to learn about issues in the state, how the legislature runs, and express my own concerns. He’s a republican, but his opponent was legit crazy, so it’s not so bad having him represent me I guess. Cutler’s opponent was Alena Ericksen who is part of the “sovereign citizen” movement. Sov citizens believe that they are above the law. Two weeks ago there was a police shooting outside the Farmington police station that left a young man dead. His mother was also a sovereign citizen extremist who convinced her child that he did not have to register his car or provide his driver’s license to police when asked. What a tragedy.

4. A big focus of my discussion with Mr. Cutler was water issues. I’m really worried about the future of the Great Salt Lake. The legislature spent a lotto money on long-term solutions this year, but didn’t exactly treat it as the short-term emergency that it is. The governor is doing a PR tour trying to convince the media to stop "being so negative.” Well. Lucky for him we had an excellent water year and that will buy law makers a little but of time. Wednesday morning the church announced they would be donating 5,700 water shares to the state. That’s a huge donation—somewhere near $1 billion in value. I was very pleased to see them take the issue so seriously.

5. This week was end of term, so the boys didn’t have school on Friday. Ethan and I decided to meal prep and made over 100 breakfast burritos for the freezer. Blake and I made pulled pork and rice and put them in freezer containers as well. Hopefully there is no more grumbling about nothing to eat for awhile.

6. We also took advantage of the nice(ish) weather to get outside and do some spring yard cleanup. The kids were THRILLED. I enjoyed it too. There is no longer snow on our grass, and my tulips are starting to come up! After we worked Dad took us all out to ice cream after.

7. Ethan go to go to do baptisms for the dead this week, and also had an invite from Emerson Locke to go to the Jazz game last night. They played the Boston Celtics, and apparently Boston had a good showing and the fans were LOUD. Jazz pulled it out in the end though.

8. Speaking of basketball, everyone is enjoying all of the upsets in March Madness this week. No perfect brackets left!

 9. I got the wordle on my first try for the first time this week! Crazy!

10. Today Ty played A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief in sacrament meeting. He was so nervous, but he did great.  And yes, your dad cried.

Love you!
Mom
