Golf Getaway

Hello Michael!
I hope you had a great week. How did the move go? I bet you had a lot going on and a lot to learn this week! I look forward to hearing all about your new responsibilities.

This is what we’ve been up to:

1. Dad got to go on a day trip to Oregon to golf. Gabe Griffin invited him to go along. They left early in the morning and took a private jet with a few other guys to spent the day golfing on the coast. Hard to turn down an invitation like that!


2. On Friday night we went to watch Eli play the part of Jafar in Aladdin at the Endeavour school play. He was wickedly funny!

3. Blake and Ty both went to the Sweetheart Dance on Saturday. Ty went with Jaden Madsen and Blake went with his friend Addie. Blake’s first date! A fun time was had by all.

4. Ethan got to go to the Jazz game with his basketball team.

5. Jett’s basketball season is over. His team lost their first game this week and he was bummed.

6. I got to go to two different book clubs in one evening. It’s good for me to get out of the house with friends every once in awhile.

7. Otherwise I had a very exciting time of organizing closets. The game closet got my attention this week.

8. We had an electrician come to help us out with putting in a conduit for Fiber from the side of the house down to the mechanical room. Hopefully we are one step closer to Fiber internet.

9. Everyone in the house got sick this week. It’s wiped me out. I slept in until 3:00 in the afternoon and still fell asleep on the couch later! Hopefully this is a short-lived cold.

10. I’m watching the news with interest about the Unidentified Flying Objects that the military has been shooting down. What on earth?!

Hello my dear! Well, besides the food, it sounds like you had a really amazing week last week. Having all of the mission presidents and apostles there must have been such a neat experience. I’m sure it was a very powerful feeling being in their presence. How cool that you were able to be there and pass the sacrament. I’m sure that’s something you will always remember. I want to hear more about speaking Mandarin with Elder Gong and his wife. You didn’t get to speak to him directly did you? Perhaps he just came to speak directly with all of the mandarin language missionaries? I’m glad you are back to playing basketball, but sorry all of your OG friends are gone now. I’m guessing you are starting to feel like a true MTC veteran watching all your friends come and go. My friend Allison Jensen said you saw her daughter Elizabeth and she was surprised the two of you would recognize each other. She flies out the day after you. Hey Ty— I hope you have had a great week. Was this the week of the mission leader seminar with all of the general authorities? Was it great? Did you get to serve them the sacrament? Jett wants to know! Is it over and do you have access to the gym again? Ok clarification—That headline about the mother and the snake—it kept popping up at the bottom of other news stories I was reading. Because I’ve been googling and taking about and thinking about snakes a lot lately. And our phones are listening to us and basically can read our minds now, so they advertise to us what they think we want to see. But I DO NOT want to see headlines about snakes eating mothers. Anyway. I went back and read the article. And it really happened. A (human) mother lining in Indonesia went missing. They found an enormous snake, cut it open, and pulled her dead body out—clothing and all. Horrifying.  I saw another picture of a ridiculous snake today. Last Week at the MTC!

Hey there— I’ve been thinking about you all week. I’m hoping you have enjoyed your last week in the MTC and have soaked up every last bit of edification and inspiration from your devotionals and musical numbers. What a life-changing opportunity this has been for you! Never again in your life will you have the time and ability to devote all your energies to gospel study and service. So make the most of it! I know you have. I’m so proud of you and the effort you have put in to becoming a strong missionary, and I know you will make a difference in those you teach, serve with, and in your own life. Is tomorrow the day you fly out? You must be so excited! And maybe nervous? I’m guessing you have mixed emotions about leaving the MTC, but mostly you are ready to begin the next phase of your mission.
