Election Week!
Hello my dear! I hope you had a great week. How did everything go with Eric’s baptism? I hope it was perfect. So glad to hear you had a great turnout at church and are continuing to find new people to teach. Sounds like you had a wonderful experience with Jenny in the temple. I’m so glad you are able to teach and see people’s lives change. Those men riding the train! Holy cow! Crazy. What an adventure!
We had a fun week.
1. Today was the primary program at church, and there were a TON of visitors—including Grandma and Grandpa Rawson. I guess it’s a thing to invite grandparents? Tate got to come up to the microphone and say “I think the temple is beautiful,” and Jett got to sing “I love to see the temple” with his class. I got to sit up on stage with them and did not end up having to teach the lesson I prepared. Nice.
2. I did not manage to make it in to the gym this week, and am feeling bugged that I signed up already knowing my schedule was full. Hopefully this is the week I can get into a good groove.
3. This week I went to a PTA conference with Karene Warby. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There were some really interesting speakers. Also it was kinda interesting seeing some of the back room drama of the PTA when it came to voting on legislative priorities.
4. Last Sunday we fasted in the ward for Gavin Scott. He went in on Tuesday for some testing at Primary Children’s Hospital. They thought they had narrowed his condition down to two things. He was going to do nerve testing on Tuesday, and if needed a muscle biopsy at the end of the month. But they were completely surprised by the results on Tuesday that his problem is a not a muscular problem, but a motor nerve problem. Now they have to completely reevaluate his genetic code and start over with testing. Hopefully they get more information soon. Whatever his condition is, it is rare.
5. This week Tiffany’s dad Duke had a heart attack. Luckily it happened before he went to sleep for the night, and they were able to take him in to the hospital in time for him to be treated. He had surgery to correct one blockage. He still need two more blockages cleared, but they are worried that his is not healthy enough to do the other two procedures right now. Hopefully he recovers well. Leishja’s dad starts chemo on Wednesday.
6. On Thursday I checked Ethan out of school early and we went to the Semi-Final 6A football game. Farmington vs Corner Canyon at Rice Eccles Stadium. We had such a great time. It was a really exciting game and was quite competitive until the 3rd/4th quarter when Corner Canyon pulled ahead. We lost, but it was a great game. I’m sorta relieved that football season is over, because it’s so time consuming, but Blake will be resuming his trainings with Matt Byrd tomorrow!
7. Ty went to the Harvest dance with Sophie. There was a western theme, and I think they had a fun time, though he didn’t know everyone in the group really well. Sophie seems like a really nice, smart girl. She will be going to school on a volleyball scholarship in Grand Junction Colorado.
8. Jett has his first indoor soccer game and loved it!
9. I got to go to Bear Lake with my bookclub and have a fun weekend away. It was so relaxing!
10. Election week was awesome! Even better than expected. Republicans and pollsters were predicting a Red Wave, but it didn’t turn out that way. Democrats were able to hold the senate (sorry Mitch McConnell). Results are still not final to know whether Republicans will take over the house. Most likely Republicans will take the majority, but they will have a much smaller margin of error than they were hoping for. Many election deniers who were running to do election work lost their races. It’s really so fascinating to watch. Historically the midterms are a referendum on the President, and Biden has a very low approval rating. But this midterm election was the most successful for any sitting president for the past 60 years or so. My takeaways: polling is flawed, Biden is routinely under-estimated. Trump is scheduled to announce his candidacy for President this week. It’s gonna be wild.
Next week, another adventure awaits. I’m sure. I love you!
