Hey Kiddo!

I hope you had a great week. Looks like it’s getting a little chilly in Boston already. Is it just beautiful with the leaves changing? We are having the most glorious weather here. The leaves are just starting to turn, but the mountains are turning red. It’s warm and sunny, and I’m trying to soak it up while it lasts. Usually it seems that by Halloween the weather has turned colder, so we probably don’t have much time left to enjoy the warmth. It sounds like you are having a great time with your two new companions. I’m guessing they really like working with you. How was your first week on the bikes? I’m glad to hear you have some good teaching opportunities right now, and so glad everything went well with Jenny. Let me know if there is anything you need or that I can do for you.

We didn’t have a super-exciting week around here.

1. The biggest bummer is that Ethan had basketball tryouts and did not make the 7th grade team. I think all of the kids from his “A” teams, and some of the kids from his “B” teams made it. So it was a definite disappointment. He just did not have a good tryout. I think he’s struggled to recover from his injury last summer and he’s lost some athletic ability and confidence. Hopefully he can keep working on his speed and strength and his confidence can rebound. His knee got all swollen again last week, so I’m worried he may need to go back to physical therapy.

2. Dad took Ethan in to meet with his school counselor on Friday morning, and I think it was just what they both needed. Mrs Robb really built Ethan up. She praised him for being selected by his peers to be on Hope Squad, and remarked on how exceptional it is that he’s so far ahead in his math class. It was really a nice pick-me-up after a tough week.

3. Blake’s team had a total blowout this week. It was nice for them to have a good solid win. We thought there was a chance of his getting some varsity time on Friday night, but he ended up coming home sick before the game. We’ve been passing around a cold for several weeks, and it finally caught up to me on Saturday. Blake also has a sore arm. Hopefully he was able to rest it enough over the weekend that he can still play in his game on Wednesday.

4. Ty brought home some very impressive pottery that he made in ceramics.

5. Ty also did a “Big Day” on Saturday. He got up and out the door around 6:30 am and drove all over to see how many different birds he could spot in a day. I think he got up to 46? Maybe a couple more. Very impressive! He took 2 fancy cameras, 2 scopes, binoculars, and night vision binoculars that Mr. Blundell supplied him with. It’s so awesome that his teacher is giving him access to all of this amazing equipment. Mr. Blundell is the best.

6. Tate had his last soccer game on Saturday. He wasn’t feeling great, biut I gave him some Tylenol and took him anyway because I knew he would be so sad to miss his last game. As it was, he was already crying about how he was going to miss his team, and how long util he gets to play soccer again? He got a medal and a special treat and was so proud. I’m glad we made the effort to go.

7. So, I grew a lemon! First time. But. Then I killed the plant. Dang it. Those citrus trees are hard to keep alive! I want you to grow your chia pet and show me the pictures.

8. Also, I took a 10-mile bike ride this week. I am super slow, but patting myself on the back for making the effort. I also went to hi-fit for the first time since covid, so overall it was a good exercise week for me. But I’m taking today off while I recover from this cold.

9. Saturday night I had mt friends from our old neighborhood come over for dinner. It was really fun to see everyone. Sam Willden is home from his mission and up at Utah State. Jane has gone down to SUU. Anna Geckler is at BYU studying education. Brandon is at Davis on the cross country team and is Dartman for Davis High! Ella Gatherum (die-hard Ute fan) is also at BYU. Tiare Egan has almost graduated from BYU Hawaii, but she is leaving soon on a mission to Samoa. Kristy is doing a service mission folding laundry at the Bountiful temple. I guess both Kristy and Tiare were volunteering at the temple and saw Ethan, and both of them asked if he was a Rawson! Lol.  He looks so much like you did when we left that neighborhood. Brynn Montierth is on scholarship at University of Kanas (?). She is headed to law school. Valerie says that Ben is doing well on his mission, but there’s definitely culture shock. His first apartment didn’t even have any running water, and his first companion did not want to work. Sounds like he has a new companion and things are getting better, but maybe the area he’s living in isn’t super safe.

10. Dad got to entertain the kids while I had my friends over.  So they ordered Cafe Rio and watched a fun Halloween movie. Good times for all!

It was great to talk to you today. I always love to see your face and hear your voice! Glad things are going so well.

Love you,
Mom
