Conference Weekend
Hello My Dear,
Happy October! I’m absolutely loving the weather right now. It’s glorious. Bright blue skies and sunshine plus the occasional heavy rainfall. I wish it could be like this all year round. I bet this is a really fantastic time to be in Boston as well—although it looks like it’s a good 10-20 degrees cooler there. How are your shoes holding up? Seems like you said they were starting to fall apart? Were you able to get them repaired, or do you need replacements? Did you end up mailing your watches to us? I haven’t seen them arrive. Or did you mail them to the company to have the batteries replaced? I’m very excited to hear you have approval to ride bikes now. I know you will enjoy that, and it will probably improve your efficiency. Also, I’m excited that your area has expanded and you will have some new teaching opportunities. It’s exciting to have another missionary to train. You must feel busy! Make sure your companions know that you have the nicest apartment ever, and it will only go downhill from there! I’m so glad things went smoothly for Jenny’s baptism. She looks very happy. So do you!
We are just in the thick of crazy-busy sports season. I spend every afternoon driving all across town. This is what we were up to this week:
1. Ty got asked to the Sadies dance on Sunday night—yes, the day after Homecoming! He was surprised, but I wasn’t.
2. We played Davis this week in football and lost both the Sophomore game and the Varsity game. It was kinda rough. Davis was chanting “Little Brother" at us after the game. Blake did get a really amazing catch play again. But the refs called them on it and said if they wanted to run the play again they would have to declare him as an eligible receiver. Blake’s not exactly sure how that would work.
Funny thing happened on the way to the Davis game. We parked behind the stadium at Mountain High School and walked through a field to get over to the game. Jett brought his friend Andrew and they were playing catch with a football while we walked. Andrew passed Jett the ball and Jett jumped up and caught it one-handed. Several teenagers from the student section looked over the back of the bleachers and saw Jett make the catch, and they all started cheering for him! He loved the attention.
3. I sat by all of the basketball moms at the varsity game on Friday. I was looking up the bleachers for an empty spot to squeeze into. And then a few minutes later I realized I was sitting right next to Shawnette! Bryson, Cody, and Cole’s parents were all sitting behind me! I guess they just can’t get enough of High School sports. They can’t watch their own kids play anymore, but they can’t give it up! Lol. Shawnette has a new job working for Coach Walkenhurst managing the younger kids Pheonix program finances. Sheri has also gone back to work part time working at Gal’s garage panting and building furniture, cabinets, and barn doors. Uncle Mike, Taysen, and Lexi also came to the game to keep me company.
4.Ethan had a busy week with baseball games and basketball practice. He had early morning conditioning at the jr high for basketball. He was so sore! Tryouts for the team are tomorrow morning. I really hope he makes it. I loved going and watching you play.
5. Ok, another funny story about Jett. He came home from school the other day and told me that he is like a ring leader with his friends at school. I guess now Andrew, Trek, and Porter are all wearing their shirts backwards too! Lol. Their parents are going to hate me if this goes on long! By the way, I guess this is all your fault? Jett told me this all began at Lake Powell when he accidentally put his shirt on backwards and you called him Drip Lord. From that day forward he has worn his shirt backwards on purpose. Thanks for nothing Michael!
6. Jett is so competitive. He’s working on a reading challenge and a math challenge at school and is obsessed with getting his practice minutes and book reports done so he can stay at the top of the competition.
7. Dad took Ty, Tate, and Ethan to the BYU football game this week and had a great time.
8. Uncle Zach got called into the Stake presidency!
9. Robby and Leishja began construction on their new home. They dug the hole! Very exciting for them.
10. We got a new water heater this week. Again. The darn thing completely pooped out on us. Again. I had the coldest shower and DID NOT LIKE it! Benji to the rescue. This time they put in a different kind of unit, and we are all crossing out fingers that we don’t have to call Benji again for another 15 years.
Yesterday I took Ethan to baseball an hour before his game started. I put on my walking shoes and walked around a neighborhood up by the temple and listened to Conference. The weather was perfect and I really enjoyed all of the talks. Couldn’t think of something I'd rather be doing. It was such a great session. I felt like there was a theme of inclusion in many of the talks, which I appreciated.
I hope you had a great week. I always love to hear from you. Sounds like you are happy, healthy, and working hard. I’m proud of you.
Love, Mom
