Back to School
Dear Michael,
It sounds like you are working hard and breaking that new missionary in! Poor Elder Wheeler! I’m happy you have so many people to teach. I hope everything went well with Eric this weekend. I love hearing about all of the interesting people you meet and the funny experiences you have. And as always, I’m surprised by the kindness people show you. I love that those people invited you into their restaurant for a drink and you made friends with everyone! Keep doing what you are doing! You are a great example to your brothers.
1. Last week we got to attend Hunter Spencer’s homecoming. It was fun to see him and some of the extended family at the house afterwards. One of the things Hunter mentioned in his talk was that he was basically the same goofy kid who left two years ago—only a little better, a little kinder, a little more obedient, etc. Hopefully we can all look back and see small but noticeable improvements in the way we live our lives, and in our faith and testimonies over time.
2. Tate had his first soccer game. He was soooo excited. He wants to wear his jersey every day. 4-year-old soccer is kind of hilarious. Jett had his first flag football game. He likes football ok, but what he really wants to do is take karate. I think secretly he wants to be a ninja.
3. Blake has been playing in the sophomore games, but dressing for the varsity games. He got into the game to play a bit last week. His elbow is sore and the PT told him to rest/ice over the weekend. Hopefully it’s back to normal soon.
4. Ethan finally graduated from physical therapy! He has been cleared to “ease” back into playing sports. He’s so happy about that. I get to continue with PT for awhile longer. I had an MRI on my neck and back, and I’ve had some tingling in my hand, I’ll meet with my doctor in another week to go over the results.
5. Everyone went back to school two weeks ago except Tate who had to wait until last week. Everyone seems to be pretty satisfied with their teachers and schedules. Ethan is warming up to Jr. High. Ty is taking advanced ornithology and ceramics 2. Blake got into an automotive class. Tate loves preschool and wonders why he can’t go every day like his brothers. He misses his old teacher Miss Lori.
6. The first week of school was filled with parties. We went to the ward swim party, the firm party, and Jett’s soccer team pool party. Also we had game night at Grandma and Grandpa’s house to say goodbye to Robby and Leishja. Lots of late nights, and lots of fun. Rob and Leisja are now up in Idaho. Leishja started her new job on Monday. Grandma was so sad to see them go. Looks like the basement is going to possibly stay empty until the next generation of kids needs a place to stay!
7. Dad’s been busy at work. He got a new office with extra space this week. The firm is doing a bit of remodeling, so I need to go in and see how it all looks.
8. I’ve been working my tail off in the garage. I finished the epoxy floor. (Yay, yay, yay!) I made some mistakes, but overall it looks really good and I’m pleased with the results. This week I had a handyman come and get started assembling cabinets and hanging racks. He also patched up some damaged drywall. Yesterday Dad continued work on the racks, and he and the boys cleaned and organized the things from the side of the house. I sanded and painted the damaged wall. Tomorrow we are hoping to get the fridge and freezer put back in the garage. We are also in charge of putting up flags tomorrow, and we plan to go up the canyon for Jan’s salmon fry, so I’m not sure we’ll get much more done in the garage. But—we are definitely making progress!
9. Grandpa Rawson stayed a couple of nights in the hospital, but they sent him home with medication, and he seems to be feeling much better.
10. Today we had an early dinner, father’s blessings, and game night. Dad took Blake out driving and accidentally took Blake on the highway. Blake was STOKED! Ty went to bed around 7 or 8 to get a little sleep in before he heads out hiking tonight. He and a group of friends are heading out at midnight to go hike with hopes of getting to the top in time for the sunrise. There’s alway some adventure happening around here!
11. Oh! Speaking of adventure…Last night I put out a fire in Warby’s front yard. I was working late outside in the garage and creating a lot of dust from sanding drywall. I went to dump some dust outing the trash can and noticed the air was smokey. At first I thought is was just the dust I had created, but then I smelled the smoke. So I went investigating and found on of Warby’s bushes on fire! I rang their doorbell and pounded on the door and then ran home and got our hose to put the fire out. Warby’s never even came out until the fire was out and I texted Karene. They thought they were just being doorbell ditched and ignored all the fuss outside. I’m not usually out in front of the yard at 10 on a Saturday nights, so it was lucky I found it so quickly. It could have easily spread and caused a lot more damage. Karene thinks some kids threw a firecracker into the bush. Later Heidi said someone threw a firecracker over their fence as well. Scary!
I hope you have an excellent week. Love you tons!
