Scottsdale

Dear Michael,

It was nice to talk to you today. Too bad the connection was so terrible! Glad you had a great week and fun p-day.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s already late.

Rawson happenings:

1. Daylight Saving Time. Man. Losing that hour is always brutal. The Senate just passed a law doing away with the time switch twice a year. Waiting to see if the house takes it up. I hope so!

2. Dad and I flew to Phoenix (Scottsdale) on Wednesday morning for his legal conference. The airline switched our flight from 3 pm to 8 am. More early mornings. Do not like.

3. The bright side is that we arrived with time for lunch and a trip to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Your dad was so excited to spend an afternoon looking at cacti! I really enjoyed the afternoon. The best part was the butterfly exhibit. But the garden was also hosting an art exhibit of glass sculpture by Chihuly, so it was a good time to go.

4. That evening we went to a nice French restaurant with Dad’s boss Steve Bennett and his wife Brenda. My salmon was very good. But what I will remember is the Octopus appetizer. I was brave!

5. The rest of the week Dad went to his classes and I spent the day sleeping in and reading by the pool. Lovely.

6. We went out to a movie one night. Uncharted. It was. . . a bit fantastical. Not the best, but somewhat entertaining. We had the theater to ourselves. And then we went out to get frozen yogurt. The place was open until 2am and the owner told us he also owns two other businesses. Dad was convinced he was involved in criminal activity. Lol. This was after losing our car in the parking lot and Dad thought the car had been stolen!

7. On Saturday we went to a spring training game and your dad worked hard on nailing down the itinerary for our trip to New York over spring break. He does such a good job with vacation planning. It’s so time consuming, but he is great with the details. That night we had dinner with one of Dad’s mission friends and his wife. The food was fantastic, and I enjoyed the company.

8. We arrived at the airport on time Sunday afternoon, but our plane did not. So we got bumped to a much later flight and spent 5 more hours sitting around the airport. Arrived home after midnight. Overall I can’t complain. It was THE BEST vacation!

9. Dana and Tanner have decided to accept a job offer in Grand Junction, Colorado. I’m really excited because it is within driving distance. They are looking at buying a home now. Possibly even building a new one, and they are hoping to build a pool. So fun. Dana completed the New York half marathon in just under 2 hours, and she is very proud of her accomplishment.

10. We found out last night the Robby and Leisja cancelled the building contract on their home in Idaho. They are worried about high building costs right now, and found out property taxes are much higher than they were anticipating. So I guess for now they are just going to stay put and Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Not sure what their plan is yet.

Love you! Have a fantastic week!
