March Fun
Hello my Dear,
How was your week? How did transfers go? As expected? Tell us about your new companion. It looks like it’s still chilly in Boston, but perhaps some more spring-like weather is coming. It’s cold here, but sunny today. I’m ready for winter to be over.
We had a fun and busy week here. Top ten:
1. GOP caucus meetings were held this week. I went in hopes of electing more moderate candidates. At the meeting I learned that at least 75% of the people in attendance think that our elections are rife with fraud and we should do away with mail-in ballots. Sigh. I also learned that Dave Adams intended to run for senate against his uncle Stuart Adams who is the senate president, but Dave got cut out of his uncle’s district during redistricting. How convenient. Stuart is bad, but Dave is crazy. Dave hates his uncle and says Stuart cheated Dave’s dad out of the family business. I think he was hoping to use this campaign to expose his uncle. Anyway, looks like he is still planning to run for senate, just in a different district. Heaven help us if this is the future of our leadership.
2. I had to go in for my first mammogram in 20 years. Not my favorite thing to do, but at least good results. Back in 6 months.
3. I took Ethan in to register for jr. high classes this week. So weird that next year I will only have one child in elementary school! Ethan is excited about jr. high, but not about choosing classes. We put him down for a full year of PE and some art classes. Maybe he will apply for Robotics. He was thinking about trying to be a student body officer, but is worried about it taking too much time on top of his sports commitments. Also, I think he did not want to give an election speech.
4. Blake had early-morning football practice at the high school starting this week. That’s going to be super-fun.
5. Ty took the ACT this week at school. Probably won’t be the last time he takes it.
6. I took the younger boys to St. George for a few days for Ethan’s baseball tournament. It was rough. The first day especially was SO COLD and WINDY. Dust flying everywhere. And cold. Did I mention it was cold? This is a new team for Ethan, so everyone is still trying to get to know each other. They lost their first two games, but Ethan played pretty well. Then the next morning we had to be up and out super early because we had an 8 am game out in Logandale which was an hour and a half away from our hotel. Sigh. Lost that game as well. Luckily it warmed up and they won the last game, so they could end the tournament on a good note. We came back to the hotel and the kids enjoyed the swimming pool for a few hours. Tate’s face got sunburned. He refused to let me put sunscreen on earlier in the day, and by the evening it was bothering him. He kept waking up and crying about it for hours and I worried it would go on all night. But mercifully he feel deep asleep around 11:00 and didn’t wake back up. Oh, he is in such a hard phase right now. When he tells stories he reminds me so much of you at that age. He makes the cutest facial expressions. The other day I decided that he was your evil twin—very determined and stubborn, but naughty too.
7. Up bright and early again the next morning to get back for Ethan’s basketball tournament games. (We really got a lousy schedule. Would have liked to stay another night, but whatever.) The game was quite exciting. Despite coach Barrett getting 2 Technical fouls and being ejected from the game, and Jaxon getting a black eye, Ethan’s team won. Ethan will be trying out for the Farmington team this spring, and it will be interesting to see how his team changes. I haven’t been thrilled with Tommy as the coach.
8. Blake had a bunch of friends (girls!) over on Saturday for games and a movie. They were so loud and sounded like they were having a great time. It’s good to have kids over again. Seems like it's been a long time.
9. Ty had the priests over this week for dodge ball and video games. He made monster cookie dough to share, but read the recipe wrong and put 5X the butter into his double batch. Dad insisted on trying to salvage it. So last night he figured out how to take half of the bad dough and mix with with a huge batch of good dough. It would hardly all fit in the mixer, but ended up tasting good.
10. Despite said cookie dough, I met my DietBet goal for the month. I joined a health challenge with Aunt Alison and lost about 8 pounds this month. I still have a long way to go, but hopefully this will help off-set whatever damage I do on our trip to New York next month.
Well, back to work. I hope you are doing well and are enjoying your p-day. Love you!
