Interesting times
Hey there Ty! I hope you had a wonderful week. It looks like you’ve injured your finger. I dislocated my pinky when I was your age and I still remember how much it hurt! I hope it heals up well. We’ve had a really nice relaxing week.
- Ethan had a basketball tournament in Logan on Tuesday and Wednesday that I got to take him to. He played really well.
- During the break between games I took him driving in the parking lot for the first time. Exciting!
- Also during the break we went ice blocking down the Aggie A hill. Ethan talked me into it. Of course I sprained my finger. Of course I did.
- Wednesday we packed up for our Rawson family vacation in Mt Pleasant. We left late and hit traffic. Of course we did. It was getting dark when we arrived at the property and our navigation took us on a bit of a detour up a very narrow dirt road with a drop off to the side. We had to eventually back down the road, but managed to arrive safely. We rented a huge house on a large property that was near a small river. Really lovely.
- Bright and early we celebrated my birthday by going golfing at Palisade State Park. It was beautiful weather and the course smelled like my favorite spring flowering tree—the Russian Olive. Dad rented a cart for me and Jett, which definitely made the experience more enjoyable. And Jett was absolutely STOKED to get to drive the golf cart! But then he got hit by a golf ball and he was NOT stoked about that. Poor kiddo. Blake did not enjoy himself and bailed after 9 holes. Aunt Krysta made taquitos for dinner, and Jimmy made me a chocolate cake, and it was a lovely day! Dad got me some new Chaco sandals and flip flops that I’m really excited about. And also some new placemats for the table and an awesome thick knee pad for when I weed in the garden.
- We spent the time in Mt. Pleasant playing games, reading, playing at the lake, and glow-in-the-dark dancing. Michael read a super thick Econ book. Blake and Ethan did about 2000 pushups. Jett got sunburned. Tate was in cousin bliss. Dad did a whole lot of work. We had an excellent time.
- We checked out of the house at 11:00 this morning and it basically took us three hours to make our way to Provo and find a church meeting. After stopping at three buildings each having stake conference, the fourth building was finally a sacrament meeting!
- We dropped Ethan off with Emerson Locke’s family to drive down to St George for a basketball tournament this week. Hopefully he plays well and gets some good look from his coaches!
- This has been a wild week in the news—just like every week since Trump was reelected. Trump and Elon Musk had a very public break up this week and got into a huge Twitter war throwing shade at each other. Musk accused Trump of being a criminal pedophile. Trump wondered if Elon’s drug habit had finally caused him to go crazy. Trump threatened to end all of Elon’s government subsidies, and Elon threatened to stop making rockets for the government. Trump threatened to sell his Tesla. Sigh.
- And now because Trump can’t stand to be in control of the news narrative and because he must distract from all the people making fun of him online, he created an immigration crisis in California. His administration has been terrorizing communities by sending masked immigration officials to basically kidnap people off the streets and throw them into detention centers where they may or may not have access to food, water, or attorneys. People all over the country have been videoing these events and heckling immigration officials—asking them to show their identification and arrest warrants. It came to a head a few days ago in LA after several immigration raids occurred. People began to protest and tried to intervene in arrests, and officials responded by throwing tear gas and shooting rubber bullets at protestors and journalists. Trump has called up troops from the national guard to go "restore peace,” but it’s only inciting violence. We are living in interesting times indeed.
Looking forward to talking soon!
Love you!
Mom
