Boring Last Week of Summer

Hello Blake!

I enjoyed talking to you yesterday and also reading your email. It’s fun to hear about what you’re doing and all the ways you are trying to amuse yourself while being tethered to the hamster wheel. I know conditions in the MTC aren’t the best, but hopefully someday you will look back with fondness. Max Jenkins said today that his mission president liked to teach that “There is no growth in the comfort zone, and no comfort in the growth zone.” You are being expected to grow in ways that will be challenging (and boring and frustrating) to you. But that’s all part of the plan to make you a better missionary and a better person.  You can do it, and you’ll be better off for it!

Hello Ty!

How was your week? Hope it was good! I’m looking forward to talking to you and hearing about your work this week. We had a busy week, but not too exciting. I’m mostly trying to get myself organized for the new school year and ready to go to Taiwan next week, which I’m really looking forward to. But also I’m bummed that the summer is over. It just went too fast this year!

This is what we’ve been up to:
  1. We got to go to Snowbird for Dad’s firm party this year. I took the boys early and we rode the Alpine slide several times. They did the Mountain Coaster, trampoline, etc without me! It was nice to get up into the mountains where it was a little cooler and the air was clean. We’ve had a lot of dry wind at home, and the air is dusty and murky.
  2. Ethan had sophomore orientation at the High School early Tuesday morning. He’s heading to high school! Woot woot! He’s still not sure how he’s getting to/from school. Might be riding the bus. He’s really missing having an older brother be available to drive him. I think he’s going to have a tough schedule.
  3. Tate’s soccer team just started up practice again and he’s super excited to be back in the game.
  4. Jett’s football team had their first game yesterday against Woods Cross. Jett’s the kicker this year. His team absolutely destroyed their opponents.
  5. Farmington High had a good first game against Roy with their new coach Fiefia—-winning 37-7.
  6. Dad has had a tooth that’s bothering him. Dr. Call put on a crown, but told him it might need a root canal. It’s still hurting, but we are leaving for Taiwan on Wednesday and I’m a little worried about the tooth getting really bad while we are on our trip. Hopefully it starts feeling better so he can enjoy himself while we are in Taiwan!
  7. This is Michael’s last week of his program. He has enjoyed his classes, the people, and exploring the island. He took an excursion out to a nearby island this weekend and texted Dad saying it might be one of the best days of his life! What a cool experience he has had!
  8. Friday night Dad’s mission friend Josh Lee brought his family to dinner at our house. His wife cooked curry and rice and a breakfast burrito thing, and everything was delicious. His wife grew up un Taiwan, so she told me about cool things to do and good things to eat when we get there, and I’m super excited.
  9. Last night my phone ran out of battery, and when I charged it enough to turn it back on, my library app had crashed—losing all my data. I was able to add my cards back to the app and recover the books I have on hold, but I lost my reading history and I’m totally bummed! I like to keep track of all the books I read and listen to each year. I’m going to have to think really hard to reconstruct my list!
  10. Today was a missionary day! Max Jenkins and Blake Taylor both spoke in our ward, and I went to Blake’s friend Jake Rizley’s farewell after that. They all gave really good talks. I think maybe Dad is planning to send them to you to listen to? Blake Taylor is headed to BYU, and Max to UVU. I saw Gavin Wanner. He’s going to start at the U. Dax is at Weber, and Drew is heading back to USU. Crazy that they are all in different places!
Well, sorry for the boring email this week. It’s all I’ve got in me today! Talk to you soon!

Love you,
Mom
