Hey Ty—
Great to talk to you today. I hope you enjoy seeing the temples on your p-day, and I hope you get a nice haircut! I’m looking forward to hearing about transfers. I’m very pleased to hear about the clean state of your bathroom, and jealous about the massage you got. Now I’m thinking I may need to schedule one for myself.
You heard some of this already, but this is what we were up to this week:
1. Mike got a job working at the library on campus, and it sounds like it’s going to be flexible so he can have weekends off, so that will be really nice for him. He needed his passport and ID for the paperwork for his job, so he rode the train home on Monday and asked me to meet him at Station Park. I was there to meet him, but he never got off the train, so I looked at Find Friends and he was headed in a straight line to Layton. I realized he must have fallen asleep on the train, so I pinged his phone to wake him up. Luckily it worked or he might have ridden all the way to the end of the line! Even more lucky, I met him in Layton and we had a few minutes to go to Pace’s for lunch together. Fresh lime rainbow! Good things come to those who hang out with their parents. He came home again Friday night to watch Blake’s football game and then went up to Idaho to meet up with his river rafting buddies. Fun weekend!
2. Friday was Farmington’s homecoming game, and they played Layton. We won, but it was not the best game. Blake said he counted 15 turnovers between both teams. It was like the ball was greased or something! Saturday Blake went to the Homecoming dance with a cute girl named Kim. She answered him with a beta fish, and so now Blake has a pet fish named Glen. Blake and Kim went in a group with his football linemen rather than his regular buddies, and they had a good time but I’m not sure he will do that again. There was a lot of disfunction in the planning and he ended up spending $$$ on a nice dinner.
3. Bonus story about Blake: I got a call from his Chinese teacher on Thursday afternoon. His teacher was unhappy because Blake had crossed a line of decorum in the classroom---by basically giving him a NOOGIE in front of the whole class. So now Blake gets apologize to his teacher in front of the class and let them all know that noogies are not appropriate.
4. Ethan has been getting up super early to go to basketball conditioning at the jr high. He’s playing well, but he did roll his ankle a few days ago and it’s bugging him. He has tryouts tomorrow morning and we really hope they go well! He is also practicing with Hard Knox and playing volleyball with Platinum. The volleyball tournaments are no joke. It’s an all day thing, and when he is not playing he’s supposed to work to watch the lines for other games. And it is so freaking loud. You see a lot of people wearing earplugs because it’s just too much noise. I wore my noise cancelling headphones yesterday and it still didn’t block all the noise. Dad thinks I overreact, but I’m telling you I won’t ever go to one of those without ear protection again!
5. I worked my last two days in Tooele and had super early mornings, and then had to be up early on Friday to do skill sets for Tate’s class and then on to a PTA conference. So imagine my dismay to learn that Ethan, Jett, and Tate all had Saturday morning games. I had to leave the house with Ethan at 7:15 am on a Saturday. Gah! I hate these early mornings! It’s especially rough compounded with being out late for the game on Friday and waiting up for Blake to get home from his homecoming dance. My sleep is all over the place and I’M SO TIRED. Thankfully my life is full of good things. Your dad typically goes to bed after me and gets up before me and he almost never complains about being tired. I don’t know how he does it.
6. After Jett’s football game dad got to spend the day golfing with Brodie Wood and Dave Warby. I talked to Brodie today and he said, “I don’t know how Dave love golf so much. 9 holes and I’m good.” Missy left for the Mexico MTC this week. And apparently Trey met the love of his life and was given a truck by some rich guy, so things seem to be going well for him too.
7. Dad got his phone upgraded to the new iPhone 16. He got a new case that has a little stand built into it, and it’s super fancy.
8. It’s Sunday night and Jett finished all his piano practice yesterday. Miracle! Ethan is another story.
9. Ethan Roylance returned from Brazil this week and his homecoming was today. He is such a nice kid, and he is soooo flipping tall. He was standing next to the microphone by Bishop Hyde today and made Mark look short!
10. In the news: The Utah Supreme Court slapped down Amendment D and voters will NOT get to vote on whether the legislature can ignore the ballot initiatives that have passed. The legislature will need to save their power grab for another day. This means Amendment A is also probably going down too, which means they can’t rob the education fund. As of today I’m a fan of the Utah Supreme Court.
There was a big hurricane in Florida and flooding all over the region. A lot of people dead and terrible property damage.
Israel attacked Hezbollah in Lebanon by sneaking explosives into their pagers and walkie talkies. It was crazy. And now they are doing airstrikes. They have assassinated the top two leaders of Hezbollah and it appears the whole region is headed towards war.
Well. That’s all for now. I hope you have a fantastic week.
Love you,
Mom
