Football & Photos
Hello Ty!
It was great to talk to you last night! I loved hearing about your zone conference trip to Singapore, and your culinary adventures. Hopefully you have recovered from your juice coma by now. It sounds like you had an exciting week. I’m so glad you had a good time at zone conference and were able to take the time to be taught and inspired. The traveling sound amazing even if you only get a small glimpse of the mall in Singapore. I love hearing all of the interesting cultural details like the “long house” and there “makan habis.” Isn’t it so interesting to learn about how other people live? So cool that you have a friend to teach and that you had such a good experience with his first time in the Chinese branch. Good turnout at church is a good feeling! Thanks for sending info about each of the missionaries. That will definitely help me remember who you are talking about!
It was sort of a slow week at home. I was just trying to catch up and get organized after being out of town. This is what we've been up to:
1. My week started out very exciting with my first colonoscopy. They removed 2 polyps, so I get to get back for more screening in 5 years. And my siblings all get to go in 10 years early for their colonoscopies. Lucky them!
2. Also, we got the water heater fixed (again). Hopefully it stays fixed this time. I am DONE with cold showers!
3. Jett started football practice this week. He got put on the A team! His friend Salesi isn’t playing this year, so he’s going to have to try a little harder to make some friends on his team. He said a couple of kids are trying to steal his nickname “Drip” so we will have to see how it all shakes out. He got invited to play on a comp baseball team with Mason, and he says he would rather do that, but football has already started. Plus dad wants him to learn how to work hard, so football it is!
4. Blake had his 36 hour “Crucible” experience with his team at the high school this week. They had a SWAT team come to train the boys, and it sounded miserable! It was non-stop workouts and team building exercises—including all through the middle of the night. Blake’s squad chose him to represent them in a competition. He had to do as many reps of squats, pull-ups, push ups, and sit ups as he could in 5 minutes. He came in last with 150ish reps, but he also had 50 pounds on all of his competitors. He did his team proud! They finished up doing a sunrise hike to flag rock and a big breakfast. I think he’s pumped to get started with his senior season!
5. I had a two hour training for work, and I’m not feeling super prepared to start this week! They talked to us about setting up and taking down the photo equipment, and how to use the photo software, but it’s a bit complicated, and I didn’t actually get to do it myself. They spent very little time talking about how to use the camera and how to actually take photos. Hopefully it’s not too bad, but I did think there would be more specific training. This company tells kids to bring in musical instruments and athletic equipment, etc to let the kids be photographed with something they are interested in, and I’m nervous about how to pose the kids with their objects. First day is Tuesday! Did I tell you Natalie is going to work with me? It's awesome! And she didn’t even have to submit a resume! I got two Campus Studio uniforms t-shirts and a Stanley water bottle in my welcome kit, so now I’m part of the Stanley club.
6. Andrew and Giannina took their kids on a quick trip this week and asked me to watch their dog Mabel. That’s a first for me! Andrew brought Mabel over and told me she was completely house trained and would only poop outside. Then immediately after Mabel pooped right on the court floor! Luckily Andrew was there and he got to clean up the mess! And luckily that was her only accident. Mabel was a perfect pet for a few days, and the kids got to play with her and take her out for walks. And then even more perfectly we got to give her back to Andrew. Tate might have been teary eyed when he said goodbye to her.
7. Dana and Tanner & Co came to Utah for a Staples family vacation, and they came a little early to hang out with the Utah family. But we mostly missed them because we were still in Idaho. But we met up in Park City for a few hours Saturday morning to go to the Park City Arts Festival, which was super fun. I think you would enjoy going to something like that. I used to take you to the arts festival in Salt Lake when you were little, but I don’t know if you would remember that. I used to take you so many fun places! Anyway, Ryan & Kelsey and Co came to visit late Friday night, so they came to the arts festival too. Nana and Andrew’s family came and we decided we should do this every year.
8. Ryan and Kelsey’s kids mostly look the same as when we saw them at Christmas time. Except Asher has braces and Foster has grown his hair long again. The babies are so adorable. They are walking now, and can say a few words.
9. Alison & Zach were in Colorado with my Dad. Zach and grandpa did an 80 mile bike ride with 6,000 feet elevation gain. Amazing!
10. Saturday afternoon a police officer came to the door to visit with Tate. I guess he called 911 from Blake’s cell phone. Sigh. I don’t think he will do that again!
I love you Ty! Hope you have a fantastic week full of success!
