Grinding Though May
Grind, grind, grind! Sounds like you are B-U-S-Y, and tired. Oh my word, it sounds like there are a whole lot of details and meetings and trainings and transfers, etc to keep up with. Hopefully you are able to squeeze in some time for teaching (and sleeping) too! I love that you are trying out new contacting techniques and I hope they are very successful. Being a missionary is not easy, but hopefully you savor those rewarding moments when you can really touch the lives of those who are ready to learn.
This is what we’ve been up to:
1. This week I had an appointment with Dr. Brown and got my teeth scanned for some Invisalign-type trays for my upper teeth. I’m going back on Wednesday to pick them up. I just have a few teeth that need a tweak, so hopefully I won’t have to wear them very long. Jett is going in on Wednesday for braces as well. I’m not sure he knows that. I might need to break it to him, but I know he won’t be happy about it. He seems to like having crazy teeth. Not sure when he’s going to grow out of this phase, but he’s still wearing his shirts backwards, so it might be awhile.
2. Tate and I got to go on a preschool field trip to the SeaQuest aquarium this week. He was really nervous about it and held my hand for a good portion of the time. But I think he did have a good time.
3. On Wednesday for mutual we learned things about some self-care. Alissa Hyde taught us about the lymphatic system and learning to take deep breaths when we are stressed out and need to calm down. She has finished schooling to be a massage therapist, and she’s super-excited about the things she is learning. She is practicing turning the water cold at the end of her showers, and *almost* has me convinced to try.
4. I got to have lunch with my friend Alisa on Thursday. I really enjoy lunch dates with my friends.
5. I also got to go to book club at Kristen Monteirth’s house. Cody just got a mission call to Brazil. Brynn is interning at a law firm this summer. I think she just has one more semester to graduate? And then she’s going to take the LSAT and head to law school. I guess she’s in a hurry!
6. I took Blake back to the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor to have him check on the stitches he got last week. I mentioned to the nurse that I thought he had done a good job stitching him up, and she said this doctor is excellent at stitches. She said if she ever cut her face, she would have Dr. Richards fix it for her. So that gave me some confidence that it will heal nicely. Dr. Richards also took the time to clean all of the ear wax out of Blake’s ears, and Blake seemed to really enjoy that!
7. Blake also had his first appointment with the chiropractor. We got to go sit in the AMAZING massage chairs before our adjustments, and Blake also enjoyed that!
8. We had repairmen come to check out our washing machine. Repairs were going to be $800 plus the $100 diagnostic fee. SIGH. I shoulda just gone straight to Costco.com. My new washer is coming Tuesday!
9. The week was busy with baseball, soccer, Jett’s track meet, & Ethan’s art show. Blake has been trying to get his driving hours finished. Hasn’t been able to play flag football because of his sore ear. Ty is trying to finish up all of his schoolwork and work off his Us so he can graduate—giving Dad a few extra gray hairs along the way. Ty had a big birding adventure yesterday and found bunch of new birds. He's also been attending mission call openings and playing basketball with his friends. Dad had a productive business meeting and hopefully will get some new business from it. He also took Jett to an RSL game and a cool little Rootbeer store. I think they had a fun night together. Ethan has been spending every afternoon he can with his airsoft gun.
10. We did a little bit of yard work yesterday. The grass looks like it’s dying. But Dad got the sprinklers all going so hopefully that turns around. I spent some time trying to clean up the garden area and tame the blackberries and grapevines. That’s a chore. I’m hoping by next year we can have a plan to rip out the whole garden and start over. I guess we will see.
It was fun to talk to you today. I always love to see your face and hear your voice. It was really nice to hear your letter read in church. Thank you for the thoughtful message! I hope you have a fantastic week and get those allergies under control!
