Halloween Roundup

Dear Michael,

I'm realizing I need to change my routine to find a good time to write to each week.  Maybe Sundays will be best? I’m looking forward to talking to you and hearing how your first week went. I’m sure you are enjoying this new adventure, and I’m sure you are so excited to no longer be in home MTC! I went to check the weather for Halloween and the forecast showed 100% chance of rain. I was surprised because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.  Turns out I was looking at the weather for Boston. Were you supposed to get a ton of rain? Dad said he thought you didn’t get as much as expected. I imagine the fall leaves are just beautiful this time of year where you are.

Here’s a news roundup of what happened around here this week:

1. I finally got my new tooth put in.  It cost a fortune.  Might as well be solid gold! So glad to not have a hole in the back of my mouth anymore.
2. Dad got called to be the new Elder’s quorum president. He will be good at the calling—he has lots of experience and a good heart. His counselors were just called the week before by Garth Black and Dad decided to keep them in place—Ben Mehr and Joe Nattress. Garth still looks like Governor Spencer Cox. He missed his opportunity for a fantastic Halloween costume. Lol.
3. We met with the stake presidency on Wednesday night. Brother Gallagher told us that you confessed and apologized about the Savior of the World shenanigans.  He likes you and was impressed.
4. Ethan played a lot of basketball this week. Jett’s soccer games got rained out.  This is Blake’s last week of football.
5. Ty decided to drop his math class and is so excited to have 2 periods of home release to ski and sleep in.Ty went to see Randal’s ski movie, but they got there too late. Darn it. Randal sent him a copy and we watched it yesterday.  You would have enjoyed it!
6. My thumb hurts. Don’t know what it did to it.  Don’t ever get old! Also, my left elbow has hurt all week, and then I whacked it hard on the doorframe and hurt it again. Sigh. I wonder if I did that before and forgot and that’s why it hurt to begin with?
7. Halloween was extended all weekend long this year. I took the kids to Dad’s office to trick or treat on Friday afternoon, and then over to the Police station for a city trunk er treat. Tate refused to wear his costume.  He wanted to wear this tiny monster sweatshirt from the Halloween bin that was probably 3 sizes too small.  He went to town eating candy in the back seat, then tried to clean himself off with a napkin—he had paper stuck to his hand and face.  What a mess! On Halloween we went to Great Nana’s for homemade donuts. We had a neighborhood dinner at the Hyde’s and then everyone scattered for trick or treating. Ty and Brook took Tate, Dad took Jett, and I sat on the porch handing out candy. Ty went around later to help himself to candy bowls left on the porch later.  Apparently he didn’t hear the lecture I gave Blake about only taking one piece! Blake made plans with his friend Annie during the day on Saturday, and Adam almost refused to join them just to mess with him.  He watched Insidious with his friends despite my warnings that he might have nightmares like Ty. People in Utah had major drama over the decision to celebrate on Saturday vs Sunday. We only had the bell ring twice on Sunday night.  Actually they knocked the door because the bell is broken. Just add it to the list of things to fix. Were you able to celebrate Halloween? Is there a rule that missionaries have to stay home on Halloween?
8. Some of your cousins had really great Halloween costumes. Also, Jimmy got a haircut. Pics to follow.
9. Dad and I watched a movie about Deep Water Horizon. I remember the disastrous oil spill about a decade ago, but I did not have memories of the whole rig exploding. Holy Cow it was intense.  Time to move to wind and solar.
10. Landon Galbraith and Tyler Aposhian came over to give Jett a lesson about baptism. Jett was excited for the extra attention.

We miss you. We were sad and moped around the airport for awhile after you left. We were all exhausted.  Ty came home and slept for hours.  I got a nap in too. But we are doing fine, and we are happy you are out serving. People went out of their way to be kind and to send texts and goodies and made us feel loved and supported. I’ve been sort of angry at an old friend for a few months because she is and anti-vaxxer. But she unexpectedly sent Crumbl cookies to be delivered to the house with a nice note. It was a good reminder to me that God is aware of me and my needs. I need to remember that people are good and complex, and I need to try harder to show grace to others.

Ok.  Gotta go.

Love you!
Mom

Ps. I stole the picture of the mountains off the internet, but the colors were absolutely amazing this week.
